Harzburgite
Harzburgite is an ultramafic igneous rock, and is a metamorphic replacement of peridotite. The original protolith was possibly mantle rock and/or lower oceanic crustal rock consisting mostly of the minerals olivine, pyroxene, and enstatite. It commonly contains a few percent chromium-rich spinel as an accessory mineral. Harburgite is associated with the lowest part of an ophiolite sequence. |
